Hi all,
I have a hkc alarm monitored by t/s. 18 months since fitted.
t/s have rang me to tell me that my alarm battery is low and triggering a response from them, without the alarm sounding.
Q1. is this level of monitoring possible?
Q2. why doesnt my remote panel inform me of a fault?
Q3. can I just open the main box take battery details + buy / fit a new battery? (I'm a mechanic so i can undertake most electrical jobs unassisted)
Q4. I have the engineering code, can i check battery voltage from remote panel or do any test on it before replacing?

Yes
Q2. why doesnt my remote panel inform me of a fault?
The dialler may have a different tolerance, than the panel for reporting the fault. The low battery alert may be turned off in engineer menu or there may be a fault with the dialler. Normally there should not be
battery problem after 18 months
Q3. can I just open the main box take battery details + buy / fit a new battery? (I'm a mechanic so i can undertake most electrical jobs unassisted)
Yes remembering to remove the mains power first!!
Q4. I have the engineering code, can i check battery voltage from remote panel or do any test on it before replacing?
You can got to
Service Menu
> Battery Menu
> Battery current monitor & battery load test
It you have a multi meter you could also check the dc voltage of the battery

Thanks for the quick reply,
if i drop the power to main box before changing battery, won't the system loose all it's settings?
i tried to text my alarm tonight by replying to an old text it had sent me, i texted ####set no spaces. my landline rang but nothing from the alarm. since this time i have had 4 calls to the landline at random intervals all dead on answer, any connection to my earlier text? i now know (after some research) i dont have a gsm and cant set remotly
many thanks.

it will retain all settings
The power down and battery should solve the text problem
