View Full Version : Setup/testing HKC Secure Watch alarm

We recently replaced an older alarm with HKC secure watch system (bell box, main control panel and remote keypad) with existing sensors 2 doors and 2 PIRs. Setup seems to be complete and programmed as per instuctions but when system is armed, nothing triggers it (ie opening door or walking past PIR - which shows activation light).
Bell test works.
The walk test doesn't seem to do anything. Any ideas??

Are all the zones that are in use programmed as alarm.
Are the zones configured as non eol, single eol or duel eol? Does the zone wiring match these configs?
Do you have engineer access to show open zones?

Yes, we programmed the 4 zone types (one as ent/exit) the other 3 as Alarm, the rest (8/12) as unused. We have the engineering code and have stepped through all of the relevant menu options.
Wiring does correspond to each zone (used continutity tests during install to check).
Not sure about the eol question, don't recall coming across that - which menu's should I check and which option should it be?
Thanks for reply!

What readings are you getting when each zone is closed & when opened
If closed is just less than 10-20 ohms then the zone is non eol
If Closed is 4700 ohms & open is open then the zone is single eol
If Closed is 4700 ohms & open is 9400 then the zone is duel eol
These settings are in Zone Menu> Zone Hardware
Also check that these zones are not programmed for soak test Zone menu> zone options> Type> Soak

Only got to check the remote keypad settings - all active zones are listed as non-eol, will check the corresponding resistance this evening when I have multimeter.
Checked also that zones are not programmed for soak. Thanks again for the help :)

BTW Are the doors inertia sensors , contacts or sensor/contacts?

Checked the resistance on door (contact) sensors, both show 8M ohm closed and 32M ohm open so maybe these aren't compatible with new alarm (they were originally installed with previous alarm) - need different sensors I guess?

I presume you mean 8 ohms & 32 Ohms.
The contacts & PiRs would be compatible if programmed as non eol.
For inertia sensors to work either single eol (4700 ohms) or duel eol (4700ohms x2) will be required

No, the readings were in mega ohms.

No, the readings were in mega ohms.

Then the zone is open. Are you sure?
Set meter range to 20k

Managed to trigger the alarm by connecting a U pin directly into the control panel zone 1 inputs and removing it with the system armed.
Was previously inadvertently measuring the control panel circuitry by not removing the wires to measure... Anyway - direct resistance across door sensor contacts is 0.99k ohm closed and 1.99k ohm open. So would appear that system works but is not yet calibrated for the sensor open/close trigger values.

Ahh Haa...
Was there a europlex system there previousally?
You need to either remove the resistors form those zones & programme the zone as non EOL (inertia sensors may not work)
or
Replace all those sensors with 4k7 which would have been supplied with the panel & programme the zones as Duel EOL

Previous alarm was Ademco microtech, REN 1, Accord XpC.

Same solution as posted above applies.

Removing the resistors from the door sensors and setting zones to non-eol worked, thanks, really appreciate the help :)

Replaced old panel with new HKC SW-8/12. Connected up RKP to panel with 4 wires, No sign of life in keypad.
Nothing on display or power indicator, fuses ok. Help please

Are you getting 12vdc on the power to the keypad?
Is there Aux power on the panel?

Keypad is ok now, Wrong connection. Im going to wire up new HKC SW-8/12 by degrees, one zone at a time. Lets say I connect up everything except
alarm and tamper zones, leave links in as they were when I bought panel. Should I be able to set alarm. There is a red light in middle of panel
flashing when I turn on power. Whats this light, it cannot be seen when cover is on panel, Thanks

OK guys, managed to get it working, one zone at a time. Next job is to try for connection to phone, for another day.
thanks a lot.

Good work. The red light on the PCB is just a power indicator .Let us know when you start on the dialler.
