Hi - i have a curious problem which might have an easy fix but I would be grateful for any possible help

Recently I swaped some carpet for vinyl in a room and discovered an alarm wire underneath. As it was too think to go under the new vinyl I wanted to tack it to the wall on the skirting board around the edge of the room - the problem is the wire is too short.

So I purchased some 8 core alarm wire to extend. For safety I turned the house mains off, cut the wire thant needed extending, and added in an extension piece (a fidly job but I got there).

The issue came when I turned the power back on - the system is completely dead and there is no power on the kepad in the hall.

I double checked the connections on the entension piece of wire, but still the same problem. I then took out the new extension piece of wire, and joined together the original wire, but still no power.

The mains was off for about 30-45 mins while I did the extension. Could this have caused something to reset? I've taken the cover off the main box and can see a battery in there - could this have lost its juice while the mains was off and need replacing?

Any help would be much appreicate to avoid calling out an expensive engineer!

Thanks

It would seem that the cable you cut was feeding the Keypad. I would say you belw the keypad fuse, F4 on the diagram inside the lid. Check this fuse & repleace if blown.

Thanks very much K1. I'm convinced it must be something simple and that sounds like a good idea - I will have a look and let you know if that fixes it. Fingers crossed....

Hi K1 - I'm just opened the main box and checked the fuses.... there was no circuit diagram, but there seemed to be 4 fuses in there... 3 at the top right next to where the battery connects, and one bottom left.

When i took out the 2 in the middle (2nd and 3rd down), the alarm went off outside, so I know they work! But I've conclude that the other two are blown (the very top one and bottom left one) as when I place them in the 2nd and 3rd fuse slots, the alarm refuses to go off!

So it does seem like the fuses as you suggested - are they specialist fuses? If so, any ideas where I can get a replacement? They have a glass casing with red and black stripes on them, and the metal ends seem to say "F1AL 250V" but they dont give any suggestion of what ampage they are?

As always, any ideas would be much appreciated!

Thanks

There is normally a circut diagram on the back of the lid on an Aritech CS350
Anyway I'll attach one here.
The very top one is Fuse 2 for Aux Internal bell 1amp fast blow size 20mm
The last one is Fuse 4 whic is your keypad (aha) same size & rating
