Hi,

I have an ASTEC alarm system installed in my house for the past 6 years and I've never had a problem with it until now.
What's happening is one of the zones is being displayed every time I go to set the alarm.
I can bypass it for full set but not for part set.
The message it displays is not relevant ie Zone 4 Contact
because Zone 4 is not a contact and should only be infra-red or sensor

I've ran a test on this zone but I'm getting no response from it but the infra-red sensor recognises any movement and I presume this is because for some reason now this zone thinks its a contact and not infra red

Do you know why this might have changed? Is there any way I can set it back to be an infra red or sensor instead of contact which it now thinks it is!?

Thanks

It doesn't think its a contact insted of an infraed , it thinks there is a contact open as well as the infraed.
You say zone 4 is not used, is the resistor across zone 4 loose?
Do you have engineer access? if so it may be possible to programme zone 4 unused, depending on the software version.

I unfortunately don't have engineer access. What is the resistor and how could I check if it is loose?
Zone 4 is used but for the moment I have to bypass it in order to set the alarm otherwise it just keeps displaying zone 4 contact and not allowing alarm to be set.

Any ideas on how I could fix this? I imagine its a simple fault?

Thanks

If there is nothing wired into zone 4 there will be a resistor wired across the zone 4 input in the panel . Is basically a small strip of metal with a blue band in the middle.
With out engineer access there is no way or permanatly bypassing this problem.
If its not a loose connection then that input in the panel is blown.
PM me your location & I can put you in contact with an engineer close to to.
