Hi,What is the correct way to sevice an alarm system? My alarm company services mine every year but all they do is bang each window. They take about ten minutes and charge me €150 a year.Do you think this is fair? .

Hi John,The correct way to service an alarm covers a check list in accordance with standards set out by th NSAI.This list includes checking power supply and battery levels. All warning devices. All zones & tampers.Dialling equipment,if the alarm is monitored. All tampers, entry exit routes and full set, part set and disarming of the system.Resistence levels of all zones should also be taken to ensure they are within acceptable levels. When you say they charge you €150 for a service,is this a contract which covers you for a full year? If so this is about average depending on the size of your house.A service contract should cover you for any other calls required within that year.If the €150 is just for the call to service the alarm then that is too expensive. The average would be half that.If you care to email us details of the size of your house and your existing alarm company we will shop around for you. info@alarmshelp.com
