Astec Alarm

Hi, we've just had our external alarm sound due to power failure. Alarm was fitting by previous owners and we were basically just told how to set and disarm it. On reading the manual at the time, I was aware that there was a back up battery for power failure purposes. When we went down just now to switch it off, our control panel was blank. Alarm wouldn't switch off. Does this mean a new battery is needed and if so, should we get an engineer to do so?

It sounds like the battery. If everything is all right when the power returns this would confirm it.
Has battery been displaying on the keypad before this happened?

To stop the alarm in the meantime open the panel & remove the link marker battery on the top right.
